Each week millions watch America’s Got Talent, X-Factor, The Voice, and other shows offering the next great musical talent. In each generation, musicians have left their mark on the popular music scene. McCartney, Morrison, Manilow, Manson, Madonna, Morissette, and now Miley have all dominated music headlines in the past few decades. Different styles, different voices, but how many will be remembered into the next century?

J.S. Bach (1685-1750) composed nearly a thousand pieces of music over the course of his life. His compositions are still studied and performed today and will be for the foreseeable future. His gift for music is without question. A committed Christian and faithful reader of the Bible, each of his works attempted to give glory to God by displaying the order found in creation. Bach repeatedly told his students that unless they committed their talents to Jesus they would never become great musicians. His legacy is proof of his talent and his faith.

In Psalm 37:3-5 we are encouraged to “Trust in the Lord and do what is good; dwell in the land and live securely. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.”

Whatever your talents, skills, interests, desires, goals, and abilities - commit them to Jesus and he will help you utilize them to create a lasting legacy beyond anything you could dream or imagine.
