TUTORING SERVICES
The Wayland Tutorial Program is one of many support programs offered by Student Services. Current, qualified, graduate or undergraduate students serve as tutors. Their primary function is to provide concentrated one-to-one assistance to those students needing additional academic support in order to achieve academic success.
Program Requirements
Students request tutors in a variety of subjects and classes, and for many reasons, such as:
a lack of proficiency or preparation in a particular area
a need to catch up after missing class because of illness or other emergency
an appreciation of the advantages of learning with peers in one-on-one sessions, study groups or labs
In order to ease the financial burden that many students carry, tutorial services are offered at no cost. Tutors are paid through tutorial services.
All tutoring (other than regularly scheduled labs) must be conducted in the library. After a tutor has been assigned, students must contact the tutor themselves. Those requesting tutoring should set up the time with the tutor that will work best with both schedules.
How to request a tutor
To request a tutor come by the Tutorial Services office in the McClung University Center, Suite 208, or contact the Tutoring Coordinator by phone at 291-3765, or by electronic mail at hughesv@wbu.edu explaining your needs and preferences regarding a tutor. She will discuss these with you and assemble a list of suitable tutors from the roster. She will then furnish you with this list and you may then contact one person from the list. You may need to meet with the tutor once or twice, or you may wish to schedule a set time to meet each week. You are to remain with one tutor throughout the semester per subject area. If your tutoring needs change, or you wish to discontinue the services of a tutor, it is your responsibility to contact the tutor and this office.
