Dr. Ross is an Emeritus Professor of Biological Sciences at Wayland. He is a 1967 WBU graduate and holds a master's degree from West Texas State University and a doctorate from Kansas State University. From 2004 to 2009, Dr. Ross also served as the Dean of the School of Mathematics and Sciences.  This period was highlighted by the development of new degree programs in nursing and geology.  Dr. Ross taught courses in General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology and Parasitology.

Prior to teaching at Wayland, he worked as a high school science teacher and field biologist for seven years. Then he and his wife headed to Kenya for a role as director of community health for the Nyanza Baptist Clinics, later the coordinator of Human Needs Ministries. Dr. Ross gained nineteen years experience of integrating public health programs into communities of developing countries. Dr. Ross returned from the mission field in 1994 to teach biology at Wayland Baptist University until his retirement in 2009.  During his career at Wayland he was instrumental in establishing the Wayland campus in Kenya and served as its director for many years. He was one of several WBU faculty members to collaborate on the partnership with Ken-ya Baptist Theological College in 1999, bringing with him years of expertise after serving on the mission field in Africa for many years.

In the Spring of 2010, Dr. Ross was inducted into the School of Mathematics and Sciences Hall of Honor. In his response to the Hall of Honor induction, Ross spoke of his own WBU experiences. “Wayland is about students. I experienced that first when I came as a student,” he said. “The last chapter of coming back to Wayland was icing on the cake: To get to do for other students what I believe these guys did for me.”
