RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Professor of Academic Achievement will work under the supervision of the Director of Academic Achievement.  As a faculty member of WBU, this individual will represent the University’s spiritual emphasis to the students, faculty, staff, and the community in a manner consistent with the University’s mission and purpose.  The position is for nine months, with summer employment possible.

SPECIFIC TASKS
AND DUTIES:

1.  Teaching undergraduate courses in developmental writing, reading and study skills.

2.  Advising students.

3.  Serving on departmental and University committees.

4.  Assist in promoting the Plainview Campus academic programs and involvement with community activities.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

1.  Master’s Degree required

2.  Eighteen graduate hours in English required.

Experience & Knowledge:

1.  Recent high school or University experience as an instructor of Reading or English or a related field is preferred.

2.  Endorsement by the Director of Academic Achievement, Dean of the School of Languages and Literature, and the Executive Vice President/Provost of Academic and Graduate Services.

Skills & Abilities:

1.  Written and verbal communication.

2.  Proficiency with computer software and educational projection equipment.

3.  Ability to work collaboratively with University faculty, students and administration.

4.  Faculty members must be Christian, committed to academic rigor and willing to invest themselves in the development of students and the Academic Achievement Program.

Additional Requirements:

1. Endorsement by the Executive Vice President/Provost.

2. Must be able to pass Background Checks.

3. Must have no delinquent or defaulted Student Loans on Credit Report.
