Executive Director/Campus Dean


The Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics and Sciences will work under the supervision of the Executive Director of the Anchorage Campus for administrative purposes and under the Dean, School of Mathematics and Sciences, for academic purposes. Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in the various disciplines within the School of Mathematics and Sciences.  As a faculty member of WBU, this individual will represent the University’s spiritual emphasis to students, faculty, staff, and the community in a manner consistent with the University’s mission and purpose.  Twelve month contract with 33 (thirty three) semester hours to be taught per year.


1. Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the School of Mathematics and Sciences.   Credentials to teach in the following areas: College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Statistics; and either Geology and Earth Systems courses, or Life Science and Biology/Human Anatomy type courses. Teaching responsibilities could be a combination of Face-to-Face and On-Line Courses.  

2. Advising undergraduate and graduate students.

3. Serving on School and University committees.

4. Active engagement in professional development activities.

5. Active engagement in recruiting and retention initiatives.

6.  Maintaining positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and general constituency of the University.

7. Participate in faculty meetings, creative/scholarly activity, graduation ceremonies, and service appropriate to the university faculty member.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

Earned doctorate from a Regionally Accredited Institution of Higher Education in a Mathematics or Science Discipline and 18 graduate hours in the other discipline (Math or Science) in which the candidate does not have an earned doctorate.  

Experience & Knowledge:

1. Recent successful College or University teaching.          

2. Special consideration will be given to applicants who have recent successful experience using technology in the teaching/learning process, interdisciplinary teaching, and/or on-line delivery of education.

3. Experience in advising students and developing degree plans.

4. A background in one or more disciplines of Mathematics and Sciences is preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

1. Written and verbal communication, proficiency with computer software and hardware.

2. Ability to work collaboratively with University faculty, students, and staff.

3. Candidates must be Christian, committed to academic rigor and willing to invest themselves in the development of students.
Additional Requirements:

1. Endorsement by the Executive Vice President/Provost.

2. Must be able to pass Background Checks.

3. Must have no delinquent or defaulted Student Loans on Credit Report.

4.  Must reside in Anchorage or surrounding community, Alaska.
