RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Professor of Religion and Coordinator for the Certificate of Christian Ministry (CCM) and for the School of Religion and Philosophy at the San Antonio Campus  will work under the general supervision of the Assistant Executive Director and Dean of the San Antonio Campus. As an employee of WBU, this individual will represent the University’s spiritual emphasis to the students, faculty, staff, and the community in a manner consistent with the university’s mission and purpose. Teaches related classes and participates in university activities, cultivates productive relationships within the campus community, and promotes the mission of the university thorough the strengthening of relationships with appropriate community and corporate leaders. Participates in developing and maintaining strategic direction and planning, and establishing standards. Acts as a role model in the Religion profession and maintains a high standard of practice in educating and engaging the students to provide evidence-based practices. Provides excellence in teaching, student advising, research, scholarship and community service. Works with the Executive Director, Assistant Executive Director, Dean of the School of Religion and Philosophy, and other university administrators and faculty to improve and maintain a scholarly Religion Education program and conducts appropriate research to determine the effectiveness of the existing program. Assists in acquiring grants and contracts.

SPECIFIC TASKS
AND DUTIES:

1.  Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the School of Religion and Philosophy.

2.  Advise and counsel students in MCM and MAR academic and professional matters.

3.  Direct the Certificate of Christian Ministry program.

4.  Plan and Lead the Annual conference for Christian Leaders.

5.  Serve on Faculty and University committees.

6.  Represent WBU and provide services to area churches and to the community.

7.  Maintain positive relationships with local churches, students, faculty, staff, and the general constituency of the University.

8.  Attend scheduled faculty and staff meetings and other related meetings, and participate in graduations.

9.  Be an active member of a Baptist church at all times while serving in this position.

10.  Participates in the evaluation, development, and maintenance of Religion curriculum.

11.  Maintain Professional Development in areas of expertise.

12.  Participate in and provides leadership when appropriate in Campus, University and School committees.

13.  Participate in and provides leadership when appropriate in professional organizations.

14.  Foster and maintain partnerships with related regional organizations and agencies, civic groups, and academic institutions across disciplines to promote the development of effective leaders, practitioners, and citizens and to advance the role of Religion Education within our multicultural society.

15.  Promote positive relationships with alumni.

16.  Comply with all applicable Wayland rules regulations, and policies.

17.  Advises the campus Executive Director/Dean on program compliance, budget issues, and all other related program administration issues.

18.  Be available to students as prescribed by University policies.

19.  Assume other professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director/Dean, Assistant Executive Director/Dean, and the Dean of the School Religion and Philosophy or others as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

1.  Earned Doctorate in Religion or Religious Education from a regionally accredited institution is required.

2.  Some graduate level study in Bible.

Experience & Knowledge:

1.  Recent successful educational experience or teaching at the college level.

2.  Experience on a local church staff in a ministerial role.

3.  Experience in supervising students in internships desirable.

4.  Experience in advising students and managing degree plans desirable.

5.  Experience in cross-cultural ministry is highly desirable.

6.  Understanding of and commitment to Christian higher education.

Skills & Abilities:

1.  High level of written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish is required.

2.  Ability to work collaboratively with University faculty, staff, students, and local church personnel.

3.  Must be willing to invest himself/herself in the development of students, School of Religion and Philosophy programs, and the University’s mission.

4.  Must be proficient with computer software and classroom related technologies.

5.  Must be willing to teach some courses on-line and at off-campus locations.

Additional Requirements:

Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report.  A credit check will be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
