RESPONSIBILITIES:

A full-time faculty position, the Assistant/Associate Professor of Theatre (Scenic Designer) is primarily responsible for the design, construction and technical direction of all theater productions as well as teaching undergraduate theater design and technical theatre courses.

SPECIFIC TASKS
AND DUTIES:

1. Candidate will design and supervise the construction of all productions and must have excellent communication and organizational skills to run an efficient student theatre shop staff.

2. Teach 1-2 undergraduate courses each semester.

3. Serve as designer/technical director for 3-5 productions a year (including one in early June)

4. Supervise shop staff related to designs and production deadlines.

5.  Academically advise undergraduate and graduate students and assist with registrations.

6.  Maintain a minimum of 10 office hours.

7.  Serve on University, Faculty, and School Committees; assist with graduations and attend scheduled faculty and staff meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

1.  Evidence of significant work toward a terminal degree in theater is required. 

2.  Completion of the terminal degree is strongly preferred.
Experience & Knowledge:

Recent, successful experience teaching theatre (specifically design and technical courses) in a college or university setting is preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

1. The position also requires the candidate to be a generalist in the knowledge and skills of all design areas, including 2 or more years of experience with set design and construction, scenic painting, lighting design, sound design and technical direction.

2. Candidate must demonstrate expertise in scenic design and show evidence of technical direction experience.

3. Expertise to design in a secondary emphasis (costume, lights or sound) is strongly preferred.

 4. The ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with little direct supervision;

5.  Proficiency with computers, technology, online teaching systems (such as Blackboard), and in-classroom educational equipment. 

6.  Ability to apply Christian principles in the workplace.
Additional Requirements:

1. Endorsement by the Executive Vice President/Provost.

2. Must be able to pass Background Checks.

3. Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report.  A credit check will be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
