Director of Library Services/Archivist


The Cataloger/Interlibrary Loan Assistant works under general supervision of the Director of the Library and provides direct assistant to patrons with Inter Library Loans and fills in as needed in absence of other assistants.


1.  Research records in OCLC for cataloging.

2.  Transfer cataloging information to online catalog or Workflows Database.

3.  Edit and update records as needed.

4.  Print labels for spine, add barcodes to books and enter into HLC.

5.  Occasionally help patrons at circulation desk.

6.  Enter and maintain ILL requests.

7.  Compile monthly and annual reports as directed.

8.  Type routine correspondence.

9.  Answer the telephone and direct calls.

10. Provide general direction and information to patrons.

11. Assist patrons in use of copier, microform reader/printer and fax machine.

12. Occasionally share week-end and evening hours with other staff.

13. Use administrative reporting channels appropriately.

14.  Assist with other library activities as time permits.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

1.  High School Diploma or its equivalent.

2.   Some college preferred.

Experience & Knowledge:

Library experience preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

1.  Good oral and written communication skills.

2.  Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with students, faculty, staff and others.

3.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

4.  Computer proficiency with programs such as Word, Excel, Access, library automation, e.g. Sirsi. 

5.  Exhibit skillful, pleasant, and tactful manner in receiving telephone calls and meeting students, employees and visitors.

6.  Work independently, receiving minimum of supervision and guidance on established procedures.

7.  Able to acquire a thorough working knowledge of policies and procedures.

8.  Ability to use administrative reporting channels appropriately.

9.  Anticipate problem and use sound judgment and tact in handling confidential matters.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

1.  Sit at computer desk for extended periods of time.

2.  Some lifting of books and pushing book carts.

3.  Some standing and filing.

4. Ability to get to other campus areas of offices as needed.

5. Work in well lighted, ventilated and air conditioned office.

6.   Assist patrons on other levels of the library.

Additional Requirements:

Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report.  A credit check will be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
