The Custodian is responsible for the general building custodial duties for the Hawaii Campus.


1.  Performs custodial functions that may include but are not limited to vacuuming carpets, cleaning classrooms, offices, and common areas, removing trash, and the sweeping, mopping, and waxing of floors.

2.  Maintains materials and equipment in a safe and operable condition.

3.  Sanitizes equipment and materials on a weekly basis or as needed.

4.  Performs general building maintenance functions such as minor repair and upkeep.

5.  With the approval of the Executive Director/Campus Dean, orders custodial supplies and equipment.

6.  Grounds keeping such as mow and water lawn, and greenery areas.

7.  Reports maintenance related problems of the facilities to the Executive Director/Campus Dean.

8.  Assist with graduation ceremonies.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

High School Diploma required.

Experience & Knowledge:

1. Previous experience with light construction recommended.

2.   Janitorial experience required.

3.   Painting experience required.

Skills & Abilities:

1.  Must be able to maintain a clean and professional facility.

2.  Ability to juggle multiple tasks is essential.

3.  Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the university. 

4.  Must possess good verbal and written communication skills plus good listening skills.

5.  Must be detail oriented and have good organizational skills.

6.  Understand and interpret personnel policies and procedures.

7.  Prioritize task, be flexible and available to work extended hours as needed.

8.  Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively with others.

Additional Requirements:

Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report.  A credit check will be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
