Director of Admissions


The International Admissions Representative is responsible for actively recruiting and advising domestic and international students, processing international Admissions files, establishing and updating SEVIS records, communicating with enrolled international students in order to maintain SEVIS compliance, completing projects as assigned by the Director, attending college fairs and generally representing the Admissions Office to all of the University's public in a positive manner.


1. Adheres to guidelines in the University Policy and Procedures Manual posted on the WBU website    under the employee section.

2. Adheres to guidelines in the Admissions Office Staff Standards provided by the Director of Admissions.

3. Provides information regarding admission requirements, financial assistance programs, scholarship eligibility, student life, and other aspects of Wayland to prospective international and domestic students and their families.

4.  Prepares and completes international Admissions files according to established office and SEVIS  procedures.

5.   Prepares international applicant reports.

6.   Establishes and updates all SEVIS records.

7.   Communicates frequently with all enrolled international students in order to maintain SEVIS compliance.

8.   Assists enrolled international students during their time with Wayland.

9.   Attends conferences regarding international admissions and stays informed in changes in laws pertaining to those admissions.

10.   Completes projects as assigned by the Director.

11. Oversees the work of a student worker whose duties are directly tied to the support of his/her efforts to effectively recruit for the university.

12.  Resides in a primary recruiting market (Plainview) to identify and convert prospective students       to enrolled students.

13.  Coordinates with the Director, VP for Enrollment Management, and other Admissions Representatives in planning and attending recruitment fairs and activities on and off campus.

14. Travels extensively throughout the market area conducting and /or hosting high school fairs, church

visits, fellowships, alumni association meetings, and other conversion activities.

15.  Makes presentations to both groups and individuals in both person and written format.

16.  Works with multiple publics in a manner congruent with the mission of the University.  These publics include but are not limited to current students, prospective students, parents of both current and prospective students, alumni, trustees, and other college/university personnel, and various internal personnel.

17. Schedules and performs campus tours of the campus to prospective students, parents, and faculty.

18. Attends and assists in the implementation of preview events and early registrations.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

Bachelor’s Degree required.

Experience & Knowledge:

1.  Two (2) years of proven office setting experience.

2.  Two (2) years of proven customer service experience.

3.  Two (2) years of proven computer experience.

Skills & Abilities:

1.  A commitment to Christian Higher Education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian Higher Education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas generally, and Wayland Baptist University particularly.

2.  Ability to be a positive force and role model in the office by portraying a positive attitude toward other office personnel, in phone conversation and in students, family, faculty and staff members.

3.  Punctuality, dependability, integrity, honesty and loyalty in the performance of duties of the position.

4.   Outstanding planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills as well as meticulous attention to detail.

5.   Ability to multi-task.

6.   Ability to work with multiple software platforms to include MS Office and an SQL based database.

7.   Ability to travel and be away from home for up to two weeks at a time during the travel season.

8.   Strong initiative and ability to work independently toward Admissions goals as well as ability to accept direction and correction on work.

9.   Ability to work collectively with the administrative and recruitment team associates.

10.  Outstanding interpersonal skills.

11.  Strong customer service s kills.

12.  Ability to learn and retain vast amounts of information from a wide variety of sources.

13.  Tolerance for procedural changes that enhance productivity and customer service.

14.  Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Additional Requirements:

Must have no delinquent or defaulted Student Loans.  A credit check may be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
