Wayland students share trip testimonies before BGCT visitors

Jodi Henderson and Mike Smith at the BGCTTwo students from Wayland Baptist University shared testimonies about their summer mission trip to Kenya during the Baptist General Convention of Texas annual meeting held here Nov. 11-12.

Jodi Henderson, a senior from Lubbock, and Mike Smith, a senior from Kingwood, had only a brief part on the Missions Emphasis Program held Tuesday night in Baylor University's Ferrell Center. But they were able to join with dozens of others who shared how missions work is being accomplished by Texas Baptists in the state and around the world.

The two students were "interviewed" during the program by Phyllis Gamble in a style similar to a television news magazine. Others presenting included the Singing Men of Texas, who toured in China; volunteers with Texas Baptist Men, River Ministry volunteers and a woman who ministered to visitors in Salt Lake City during the Winter Olympics.

Henderson and Smith were among 13 students who spent three weeks in Kenya along with Wayland Baptist Student Ministries Director Donnie Brown and Dr. Vaughn Ross, professor of science and former missionary to the country. The group worked in orphanages and with street children, did construction work for the Nyeri Baptist Academy and shared the gospel door-to-door among the Samburu tribe.
