McBeth received honor from alma mater

Dr. Neil McBeth, Distinguished LeaderNeil McBeth of Albuquerque was honored with the Distinguished Leadership Alumni Award by Wayland Baptist University during Homecoming festivities Nov. 15.

Since 1993, McBeth has taught math at Sandia Preparatory School at various levels. He also sponsors the National Honor Society, Supercomputing Challenge, a morning student prayer time and Bible study. Under McBeth's leadership, a group of three female students earned first place honors in April 2000 and 2001 at the New Mexico High School Supercomputing Challenge. Prior to coming to Sandia Prep, McBeth taught in the Albuquerque Public Schools for 26 years, assisting in the opening of two high schools. He has also taught evening classes for the University of New Mexico in their continuing education and mathematics departments.

During his career, McBeth has been honored many times by his peers and his students, receiving Distinguished Teaching Awards from the city and state boards of education among many others. He has also served on state committees for curriculum, textbooks and testing. He also has been a textbook reviewed for Charles Merrill and has reviewed a math proficiency program for the Chicago Board of Education.
