San Angelo resident honored during Wayland homecoming chapel

The Association of Former Students at Wayland Baptist University presented the Distinguished Young Alumni award to Kyle Reese of San Angelo during homecoming chapel on Nov. 22.

Honorees are recognized for their service and support of the university, accomplishments in their chosen fields and for dedication to Christian principles, according to Director of Alumni Services Joe Provence. Other honorees for 2002 included seminary professor Dr. Robert Mathis of Fort Worth, Judge Roland Saul of Hereford, former missionary Dr. Jim McKinley of Kentucky and Lucian Morehead, a retired attorney from Plainview.

Reese Kyle Reese came to Wayland after graduating from River Road High School in Amarillo and established himself as a scholar and dedicated young man of God. He was a member of Theta Alpha Gamma fraternity and was an officer in the Ministerial Fellowship. During his time at Wayland, he served for a year as Minister of Youth at First Baptist Church in Hart and for two years as Minister of Youth at First Baptist Church in Muleshoe.

After graduating in 1993, Reese earned his graduate degree from Truett Seminary and began his pastoral career during study there, serving at First Baptist Church in Mertens. He later was pastor for four years at the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills. He began his tenure as pastor of First Baptist Church in San Angelo in January 2002 and is one of the respected young leaders in Baptist denominational life.

Reese is secretary of the Board of Advisors for Truett and is secretary/treasurer of the Alumni Association, of which he is a charter member. He is a member of the Committee to Nominate Institutional Board Members for the Baptist General Convention of Texas, the Ministerial Alliance in San Angelo and the Downtown Kiwanis Club. He also serves on the Goodfellow Air Force Base Chapel Task Force.

He and wife Amy have three children: Peyton, 5, Hannah, 4, and Wyatt, 1.
