PLAINVIEW - Spirit, a vocal ensemble from Wayland Baptist University, will present its annual spring show on Saturday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Harral Studio Theatre. Admission is free and doors will open at 6:45 p.m.

              The show will feature medleys from the Broadway musicals Newsies and Grease , pop standards "Misty," "Stormy Weather," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and a new

favorite, "Trashin' the Camp," from the movie Tarzan . Spirit will also include

a section of patriotic songs and several contemporary Christian songs in the hour-long presentation.

              Started in 1976 during the nation's bicentennial, Spirit has crossed the globe representing Wayland in a variety of venues. Composed of nine singers, Spirit maintains an active recruiting schedule as they perform in high schools and churches throughout the area. Spirit performs a wide variety of music, such as vocal jazz, show choir, contemporary Christian and musical theater.

              Spirit includes John Ed Baker of Odessa, Braxton Edwards of Bushland, Sarah Gatlin of Amarillo, David Harper of Lubbock, Jennifer Mackie of Pampa, Anna Romersberger of Fairbanks, Alaska, Andrea Turner of Plainview, Amber Wiley of Lubbock, Alan Yarbrough of Andrews. Robert Black, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Church Music Studies at Wayland, is director.
