Seebo hired to lead Wichita Falls campus

Dr. Elane Seebo has been named the new dean of the Wichita Falls campus of Wayland Baptist University , effective Jan. 1, 2004. Seebo replaces Dr. Georgia Flanagan, who stepped down from the dean's position after 14 years to take a full-time teaching position in business and education.

Seebo comes to Wayland from the position of dean of the Community College of the Air Force, based in Montgomery, Ala., where she oversaw the college's 66 academic degree programs serving over 375,000 students and offered through 125 affiliate schools. In that position, she was the focal point for the college's accreditation through the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and served as the key academic advisor to the President.

Prior to that position, Seebo spent 18 years at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, serving in various capacities such as such as director of the Family Support Center, technical training instructor, curriculum developer, chief of training technology, chief of faculty development, chief of training evaluation, and senior training administrator.   After spending more than 30 years in federal civil service, Seebo retired at the end of 2003.

Seebo is no stranger to Wayland, having served as an adjunct instructor for the university during her years at Sheppard. She feels her experience in the military side of voluntary education and with regional accreditation will be beneficial in her new role with WBU.

Seebo holds a bachelor's degree in English from Oklahoma State University, a master's degree in education from Texas Tech University and a master's degree in human resource management from Pepperdine University. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of North Texas in 1991.

"We're pleased to have another person of Dr. Seebo's caliber on our staff," said Dr. Bill Hardage, executive vice president at Wayland. "She brings both quality in management and expertise in the field. Having been in the academic vice president's office of the Community College of the Air Force, she is knowledgeable about Wayland's degree programs and the educational process for the airmen at Sheppard Air Force Base. She is the second person we've hired from CCAF."

Wayland's campus in Wichita Falls is located primarily on Sheppard air base, with an off-base location in Call Field Shopping Center. The campus offers undergraduate degrees in a variety of fields and graduate degrees in education, management and business. The campus can be reached at (940) 855-4322.
