Wall among hororees for SIFE Women in Business event
PLAINVIEW – Women are not normally associated with concrete, but Plainview resident Peggy Wall’s name is directly connected to it since she and husband T.C. purchased High Plains Concrete in 1969.
Wall will be one of three honored during the Women in Business event hosted by Wayland Baptist University’s Students in Free Enterprise team. The honors will be presented at an after-hours reception on Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Nunn Business Building, featuring refreshments and guest speaker Sandra Aven, publisher of the Plainview Daily Herald. There is no cost and all women are encouraged to attend.
The day will begin with a noon luncheon at the Plainview Country Club for interested women, featuring a round-table discussion of topics of interest to women in the business world. Information from the Small Business Administration on entrepreneurship will be available as well. A $5 donation is suggested to offset the cost of the meal, and an RSVP is encouraged by Aug. 21.
Working alongside her husband at their business, Wall was secretary and treasurer for many years while T.C. served as president. Their sons, Clinton and Bert, were vice presidents and today run the business, purchased in December 2004. Mrs. Wall still helps out occasionally in the business.
Wall was named Plainview’s Woman of the Year in 1998 by the Chamber of Commerce and is active in Soroptimist International of Plainview, helping found its Happy Feet project to provide new schools to needy school children. She serves on the board of the American Cancer Society and the Salvation Army currently.
She has been active in several other organizations as well, including the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Wee Care Child Center, Meals on Wheels, Crisis Pregnancy Services, Senior Citizens Center, Fair Theater renovation, Summer Baseball Program and mentoring programs in the local school system and at Wayland. She and her husband, T.C., have been strong supporters of Wayland in the past years, and she now serves on its Board of Trustees.
SIFE will also honor Evalene McDonald and Nell Hardage during the after-hours event. To RSVP for the Women in Business luncheon, contact Van Hoose at 291-1029 or Clements at 296-7760.
