Seebo named associate vice president of external campuses at WBU

PLAINVIEW – Dr. Elane Seebo, dean of the Wichita Falls campus of Wayland Baptist University, has been named Associate Vice President of External Campuses, a new position under provost and academic vice president Dr. Bobby Hall.

Seebo will be responsible for overseeing operations on the thirteen external campuses within the Wayland system, including sites in Amarillo, Lubbock, Wichita Falls and San Antonio; Clovis and Albuquerque, N.M.; Phoenix and Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Altus, Okla.; Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska; Honolulu, Hawaii; and in Kenya, Africa.

Together, the campuses have an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students, made up primarily of working adults who attend classes in the evenings and weekends. Many of the campuses have sites on military installations as well, with active-duty servicemen and their dependents working on degrees.

Having served at Wichita Falls campus since 2004, Seebo is excited to expand her work with the Wayland system.

“I am both honored and humbled to be given this opportunity to serve Wayland.  Our external programs have become an invaluable and integral part of the university as we have grown in our academic and Christian missions, and it is exciting to contemplate the vistas we have before us,” Seebo said. “God keeps opening doors for us, and we have both the wonderful opportunity and the awesome responsibility to step through those doors as Wayland continues to grow.

“I can’t imagine a more exciting challenge for the next decade than participating in what promises to be a dynamic, evolving academic universe,” she added.

Seebo came to Wayland from a career in the U.S. Air Force, with her last assignment as Dean of Academic Affairs for the Community College of the Air Force. Prior to that, Seebo was senior training administrator for the Air Force, stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base.

Seebo has experience with accreditation boards, serving as an on-site reviewer and a special reader for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Wayland’s regional accreditation agency. She is also an on-site reviewer for the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education and is a member of several military education associations.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University, a Master of Education degree from Texas Tech University and a Master of Arts degree from Pepperdine University. She earned the doctorate degree from the University of North Texas in 1991 and holds the rank of associate professor of education with Wayland.

Hall is encouraged by the addition of Seebo into the administrative ranks.

“Dr. Seebo emerged from an extremely talented pool of applicants and will provide outstanding leadership for Wayland's external campuses. She brings significant experience to this position and has a thorough understanding of the Wayland mission and how it relates to the external campuses and the constituents they serve,” Hall said. “Dr. Seebo’s knowledge of the university, coupled with her demonstrated ability to work successfully with academic programs, the military, and accreditation issues make her an ideal choice for this vital position.”

Seebo’s new position was created in the administrative realignment at Wayland which occurred earlier this summer, moving the administrative oversight of the external campuses and other responsibilities under Dr. Hall. At that time, new positions of Assistant Vice President and Associate Vice President were created to provide support for the busy provost’s office. Stan DeMerritt, former university registrar, filled the assistant vice president’s role.
