Opening a Placement File

In order to register with Career Services, students must open a placement file during their senior year at Wayland. Placement files will contain the following information and will not be sent to prospective employers until all of the following information is received by the Career Services office. (Forms accessed from this page need to be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you need a free download of this program, click here.)
  • The form authorizing Career Services to release a student's placement file and the circumstances under which this file can be released (determined by the student).
  • A data sheet containing résumé-type information.
  • Three references. This form should go to two professors, preferably in your major department, and one work related individual who knows you well. This must not be a relative.  Education majors should use the special  form provided for your supervising teachers.  Put your name at the top of the form and mark confidential or open file and give it along with the stamped return envelope to your reference.  Be sure to designate whether you have an open or confidential file.  For an explanation, see the records release authorization.
  • A résumé.
  • Unofficial transcript. (When file is complete, Career Services will request the transcript.)
After all forms have been collected, your file will stay active for one year from the date you registered with our office.  We will send five copies of your file to employers that you request free of charge.  Files requested by employers are always sent free of charge.

Upon gaining employment, please notify Career Services so that we can put your file on inactive status. It will remain inactive until you notify us. Files are kept for a period of ten years before they are destroyed.

Remember: Give permanent telephone numbers and addresses where you can be reached. Keep your file up-to-date!
