During Spring Break, 2012, 17 Wayland Baptist University students travelled to Detroit, Mich. to spend a week working with churches and organizations in the Greater Detroit Baptist Association. As part of their work, the students helped with Sunday morning services at the Eastside Community Church in Harper Woods and also delivered tracts door-to-door; helped distribute food to the needy at the Open Door Rescue Mission near down-town Detroit and cleaned lots adjacent to the mission the pastor wants to purchase; distributed tracts and visited door-to-door for First Baptist Church in Trenton; did some painting at Middlebelt Baptist Church in Inkster; and helped with the mid-week prayer and Bible study service at Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana in Detroit. Once the students returned to campus, they put out an appeal to fellow students during the weekly chapel service that raised money toward the rescue center’s purchase of the four lots.
