Wayland to dedicate new entrance, honor donors

Trustees, faculty and staff of Wayland Baptist University will be on hand at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 for the dedication of the Harry and Annette Igo Boulevard, a new entrance to the university off Fifth Street.

The project was made possible by donations from Harry Igo and Mrs. Ruth James, who donated funds to purchase the brick sign adorning the boulevard in memory of Bobby James.

New EntranceThe entrance features a wide, winding road that funnels into the parking lot south of McClung University Center. A median landscaped with trees was added to beautify the entrance and welcome visitors into the university campus.

A large brick sign with the Wayland slogan, "Lighting the Way," sits at the entrance, and three flag poles bear the American, Texas and WBU flags. Other trees and wood and brick fencing line the edges of the entranceway.

That portion of Smythe Street was renamed Harry and Annette Igo Boulevard in recognition of the Igo family's longtime support for Plainview and Wayland.
