Advancement division, BSM moves to remodeled building

PLAINVIEW – The division of institutional advancement at Wayland Baptist University, along with the student ministries office, have relocated to the remodeled Trinity Building in Plainview.

The building, located at Ninth and Utica streets, formerly was home to Trinity United Methodist Church. The university purchased the church property, which is very near the campus, shortly after the congregation moved.

The west side of the facility was renovated first to provide offices and a student lounge for the Baptist Student Ministries program. Existing kitchen and fellowship hall spaces are used for similar purposes for the BSM, while the sanctuary was remodeled and is the new home for Plumbline, the BSM’s weekly campus worship services. Donnie Brown serves as director of the student ministries program, which coordinates student missions, Bible studies, outreach and community service efforts and spiritual enhancement opportunities for Wayland students and employees.

The east side of the facility was then remodeled to create offices and workrooms out of former classrooms. Offices under institutional advancement are housed in that wing of the building, with Betty Donaldson, vice president for advancement, heading that unit. Others in the division are Martha Cross, director of development; Joe Provence, director of alumni services; and Teresa Young, director of communications and public relations. The advancement unit is responsible for fundraising efforts, alumni relations, advertising and media relations for the university system.

A formal open house for the university family and the community at large is planned for later in the spring.

Phone numbers and mailing addresses remain the same for the offices. The advancement division may be reached at 291-3425. The BSM offices may be reached at 291-3595.
