Beal named Director of Admissions at Wayland
PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University has named Jennifer Beal its new director of admissions, taking over for Shawn Thomas who accepted a position at West Texas A&M University.
Beal, who graduated from Wayland with a degree in English in 2002, has seven years experience in the admissions office, beginning work there as a student. Beal remained in the admissions office throughout her years as a student, taking full time employment as an admissions counselor in August 2002. In August 2004, Beal was promoted to senior admissions representative. Beal is currently working toward a master’s degree in management.
“I have worked in the admissions office since my first day as a student,” Beal said. “I am excited to take this position.”
Vice President for Enrollment Management Dr. Claude Lusk said Beal’s experience was a major factor in selecting her over other applicants.
“We are extremely fortunate to have someone with the love for Wayland that Jennifer has and the enthusiasm she has for bringing students to Wayland,” Lusk said. “The experience and knowledge base that she has will be invaluable. I think she will keep us going in the right direction and will enhance what we are doing.”
Beal’s first order of business will be to fill two recruiter positions, in preparation for a busy spring recruiting schedule.
“The spring is busy with high school visits and Wayland Nights,” she said. “We are going to hire some people and then get busy hitting the recruiting trail.”
Beal said the Admissions Office is also working on plans for a recruiting trip to Arizona, an area previously untargeted. Wayland has campuses in Phoenix and Sierra Vista and is hoping to build on that recognition to attract more traditional aged students to the Plainview campus.
