Division of Business holds meeting of the minds

PLAINVIEW – More than 20 full-time faculty members representing Wayland Baptist University’s Division of Business met in Plainview last week. The meeting, a first of its kind for business professors, brought together most of the full-time business faculty from Wayland’s 13 campuses.

This type of meeting, which has been encouraged by Wayland’s administration, has taken place in the divisions of religion and education for several years, giving professors system wide a voice in providing a better educational product.

“I was very pleased with the interaction and level of discussion,” said Dr. Otto Schacht, Chairman of the Division of Business. “This really could have gone either way. I feel much more confident now of what we can do in the Division of Business.”

The major topics of discussion included setting system-wide course competencies, curriculum, syllabi and textbooks in order to streamline and standardize course offerings throughout the system.

Dr. Schacht said communication within the group will be ongoing and they plan to meet once a year.
