PLAINVIEW – Dr. Travis Hart, pastor of Plainview’s First Baptist Church, will present the commencement address at Wayland Baptist University’s spring ceremony, slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30.
Approximately 120 students will receive degrees during the ceremony, which will also include a student address by Rosa Maria Padilla, a graduating senior from Hale Center and a member of Wayland’s award-winning Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team.
Pastor at FBC since 1986, Hart is a 1968 graduate of Wayland Baptist University and earned a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1971. In 1976, Hart earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Phillips University and did graduate study in psychology at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1977.
Hart was licensed to the ministry by Shields Boulevard Baptist Church in Oklahoma City in 1963 and ordained by the Jermyn (Texas) Baptist Church in 1968. His ministry experience includes a stint as minister to students at First Baptist Church in Floydada during his time as a Wayland student, and as pastor at Jermyn from 1968-71. He has also served the pastorate at First Baptist Church in Okeene, Okla. (1971-78) and at First Baptist Church in Olton (1978-85) before assuming his current position in Plainview.
Hart serves on Wayland’s Board of Trustees. He and wife Janie have two children, Harrison, 19, and Ellen, 15.
